Website: http://co-opa.com January 2015, Vol. 15, Issue 1 President's Message: I'd like to start the New Year off with a bang of a Fly-out, but looking at the weather report it is not going to happen. Join us to complain about the weather, and celebrate the return of $3.99 AvGas, at our monthly meeting at 6pm in the KBDN Flight Services Building. Stick around for the potluck at 6:30pm. During the short formal meeting at 7pm we will need to pick a local destination for our Fly-out breakfast. Many thanks to the High Desert Flyers, EAA Chapter 1645, for inviting us to their Christmas Party at the Black Bear Diner. Over 30 people attended from many segments of the local pilot community to enjoy a good meal and a great time. You get your real weather briefing from aviationweather.gov or weather.gov, or some derivative of those two. Ground bound people may use weather.com or Z21, but those sources are not useful to pilots except as a quick and rough long range forecast. I just discovered Intellicast.com. Instead of the 7-day forecast from weather.gov, they go out 10 days. Click a button and you can zoom in for an hourly forecast too. Anyone can guess about 10 days, but Intellicast seems to be accurate out to 3 and 4 days while NOAA is hard to trust after 2 days. Still, nothing beats aviationweather.gov for current and 12, 24 and 48 hour forecasts and for pilot friendly information above ground level. For you smart phone users Intellicast also has a very nice app for easy access to their data. In contrast the weather.gov app is awful, you are better of just going to their web site.
