Website http://co-opa.com February 2019, Vol. 19, Issue 2 President's Message: I wonder how long we will refer to the Bend Builder’s Assist hanger as our ‘new’ meeting location? The street address is 63030 Powell Butte Hwy (on the south west corner of the airport), the same place the EAA Chapter 1345 meets. If you run into Mike Robertson, or any of his hanger mates, please be sure to thank them for their generosity in letting us use the space. Aside from the new location, the rest stays as it has for years: meet this Third Thursday (21 Feb) at 6pm. Bring something tasty top share at our 6:30pm potluck. Then we will finish up a short informal meeting a 7pm. Kim Muinch will be bringing his Raspberry Pi/Stratux box to show. This ADS-B boxes are starting to be very useful. With the 2020 ADS-B mandate they will start to be almost essential. More info on their website: stratux.me Depending on whose forecast you use, our Fly-out day will be either 50% chance of snow, or 60% chance of rain. Ugh. Looks like we’ll be eating in town again, instead of flying. Calendar: 21 February – Monthly Meeting 23 February – Monthly Fly-out 21 March – Monthly Meeting 23 March – Monthly Fly-out 18 April – Monthly Meeting 20 April – Monthly Fly-out 14-19 May – Ford Tri-moter visit Weather Briefings: For a long time I have been a big fan of Intellicast for the best weather briefings. But as of January, they were merged in Weather Underground (http://wunderground.com), and Intellicast is no more. Like any big merger, things have been touch and go. Lot of continuing changes, lots of bugs, and noticeably slower. Most important to pilots, the quality of the forecasts seems to have degraded significantly. I hold out hope for them to fix their issues, but for now, I’m back to depending on weather.gov. KBDN Master Plan: Bend Airport has started a new master plan cycle. Nothing much done yet. You can find out more on the website: www.bendoregon.gov/government/departments/economic-development/bend-airport/airport-master-plan January Fly-Out: Winter finally arrived in Central Oregon in January And it was yucky. So we headed out to the The Original Pancake House, on the West side of Bend, for our “Fly-out” breakfast. Breakfast was good, but the line to get in was out the door. As a result we did a little less hanger flying than usual.
