Website: http://co-opa.com March 2012, Vol. 12, Issue 3 President's Message: Dues are due! Both the OPA and the CO-OPA dues are now by the calendar year and everyone should have paid for 2012 by now. Send your local dues to Don Wilfong and pay your OPA dues online at: www.oregonpilot.org Jay Bunning prepared a talk on Lift for COCC and has agreed to an encore performance for our enjoyment. Plus we'll have the usual 6:00pm hanger flying , chow down at the 6:30pm pot luck and 7:00pm meeting. All taking place downstairs in the KBDN Flight Services Building. Take note that June is now on our calendar. Soon we'll be back to summer flying! Luckily the KBDN Hanger Cafe continues to be an acceptable alternate for us. The weather is always VFR inside. The forecast for the March Flyout does not look so hot either. But have faith, Spring is coming! My INBOX: The good part about my INBOX is that it occasionally brings pleasant surprises. 30 years ago I gave a single cross country trip to a friend of mine, but lost track of him over the years. We recently reconnected and I found out that eight years ago he earned his pilot's license and now owns a turbo-charged 182RG. So remember to ask your friends if they want a ride. In other news, the 2012 Airshow of the Cascades is starting to shape up. For many people in the NorthWest this is their favorite show of the year. There is no title sponsor yet, so they are looking for all the help they can get. Entry level sponsorships are very reasonably priced and come with VIP seats, chalet access and more. Email me at gem@rellim.com for more details. Random Thoughts: The FAA has requested comments for the congressionally mandated new drone testing sites. Docket No. FAA–2012–0252 You can read the request, and submit your comments online. Go to: www.regulations.gov Then search for FAA-2012-0252. I'm already pondering my comments. “What I’ve learned years of Flying”? Richard Benson suggested this as a new feature of the newsletter. To get things started his submission is: ‘The Pause that Refreshes’:  The past four years, 90% of my flights have been to Monument (12S) in Eastern Oregon, where seldom do I see another aircraft. Upon arrival, I’ve discovered that if I straddle the main gear and pee over the tire, my sandals stay dry… Anyone else with a handy suggestion? Richard also sent in a visual quiz. See the photo below of his plane parked at Monument Airport with Monument Peak in the background. Notice the wind sock straight out in a crosswind, then read the photo caption and answer the riddle!
