Website: http://co-opa.com March 2013, Vol. 3, Issue 13 President's Message: February brought out the usual suspects to our monthly meeting. With Spring coming up I expect that more people will be pulling airplanes from hangers and have more stories of places flown, and to be flown to. With that in mind, navigate out to the KBDN Flight Services Building on the Third Thursday of the month at 6pm for tall tales, a pot luck at 6:30pm and a formal program at 7pm. The OPA convention has now been set to coincide with the Albany Air Fair this year. Sadly that conflicts, again, with the Airshow of the Cascades on August 23/24. So many things to do, so few weekends. I know which one I'm heading to. Not to be a nag, BUT: OPA and CO-OPA dues are collected separately and due in January of each year. You can see if you are paid by downloading the CO-OPA membership list from our website. If you are not paid see that Don Wilfong gets your $10 soon. The Tillamook Air Museum lease for the blimp hanger on Tillamook Airport (KTMK) expires in 2014. And they have signed an agreement for a large hanger on the Madras Airport. Can you put 2+2 together? In other S33 news, plans are underway to entirely replace runway 16/24 with a new slightly longer runway. The project is slated to start early 2014 and is to complete before that year's Airshow of the Cascades in late August. Fund raising is also proceeding to erect a monument to the B-17, and Madras's WW II role as a B-17 training base. Current plans are to have it ready to dedicate in August 2014. BTW, in case you missed it, S33 is no longer formally City-County Airport, just Madras Municipal Airport. February Fly-Not Similar to January, the pessimistic weather forecast kept us on the ground again. This winter has had lots of good flying weather, just not on Fly-Out days. So, a fair group of our members braved the winds to vector into the 'new' Airport Cafe The new management has been changing things up and we had a delightful breakfast and chat. Feeling a bit pent up by weather Don Wilfong in N20757 and I in N6157R headed down to Chiloquin later in the month on a clear blue Sunday. We can report the new 2S7 runway and parking are in great shape. Still only 3 tie downs next to Melita's, but the restaurant is as inviting as ever. Topped only by the view from over Crater Lake on the way home. At a noise friendly altitude of course. The forecast for the March Flyout has been flip-flopping from Sunny to Snowy. We might have to wait until Friday to make the crucial Fly/Drive decision. Don't despair. There is a rumor Summer, and good flying weather are coming.
