Website http://co-opa.com April 2022, Vol. 22, Issue 4 President's Message: April came in like a lamb, then turned into a lion. So much for old wives tails. Come vote on whether you prefer the winter weather or the summer weather at our CO-OPA Monthly Meeting on April 21stth,, the usual Third Thursday of the month. We’ll gather in the Bend Builders Assist hanger, 63030 Powell Butte Road, on the south west corner of KBDN, at 6pm. Bring your own dinner, and we’ll eat right away before food get cold. As always, many thanks go out to Mike Robertson, and Mike Wissing, for letting us use their space. The forecast for Saturday had been not so hot, but as of Thursday Z21 and Weather Underground now think it will be partly cloudy, and Weather.gov thinks it will be sunny! So where should we fly? Let’s decide at the meeting, and an email blast will go out Friday with the details of our (hopefully) final destination. The weather was about 4,000 overcast in Bend, and lower in all quadrants. So four of us decided to stay firmly on the ground, and headed over to Jake's Diner for breakfast. As always, the food was good, the company of fellow pilots great. Upon heading out, after stuffing ourselves, it was observed that the weather had continued to deteriorate, so we congratulated ourselves on our excellent decision making. Earthquake! Do you have an interest in participating in OPA efforts to form a Disaster Airlift Response Team (DART)? This is to inform you of an upcoming exercise and to gauge your interest in participating in a disaster airlift currently in the planning stages. At 9:00 am on June 9, 2022 there is to be a simulated earthquake measuring 9.0 along the Cascadia Subduction Zone followed by a 20 foot tidal wave expected to inundate coastal areas from Canada to Northern California. The airlift component will consist of volunteer general aviation resources that will fly food and medical supplies from staging areas to coastal airfields deemed to be operational. Airlift missions will be flown from June 17 through June 19. If you are interested and may be available to provide airborne or ground support during this timeframe, please respond with your name, telephone, home base, and aircraft identification. Those responding will receive weekly updates on planning activities as they progress between now and the exercise period. Jim Origliosso Director OR Disaster Airlift Response Team
