Website: http://co-opa.com May 2012, Vol. 12, Issue 5 President's Message: Many thanks to Jay Bunning for bringing us his talk on lift. It was well researched and well presented. Everyone learned a lot, even though the real story runs counter to many of the simplistic explanations of lift we have heard in the past. Maybe Jay has a career in aviation speaking ahead of him. As always we'll have the usual 6:00pm hanger flying , chow down at the 6:30pm pot luck and 7:00pm meeting. All taking place downstairs in the KBDN Flight Services Building. Also, be sure to save the date: 23 June! Bend Airport Day will be back! Gibson Air is taking the lead to be sure there will be a pancake breakfast, give-aways for the kids, spot landing contests, lunch and much, much more. Details to follow. Despite forecasts of clear weather in the Willamette Valley, Saturday morning presented us with stubborn morning fog there,. But not to worry, the weather in John Day was excellent, so we had a 'Wrong Way' flyout. And best of all, we got to see the new government stealth helicopters! My INBOX: In case you have not been out to KBDN lately, phase 1 of the west side taxiway project is complete. It looks great. Phase 2 is now well underway. Phase 2 closes the taxiway from a bit north of the gas pumps to a bit south of the gas pumps. A4 and A5 are closed as well. If the weather holds phase 2 should be complete by the end of June. My INBOX (Cont): The fine folks up at the tower in Rdmond passed this along. It would be good if we could have a strong turnout. Runway incursions remain a serious concern both locally and nationally. One important component of our ongoing efforts to improve surface safety at Redmond Airport involves conducting a Runway Safety Action Team (RSAT) meeting at least once each year. Redmond Federal Contract Tower, the FAA, and Airport Management will be hosting a local RSAT meeting on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Butler Aircraft Hangar (Bldg # 743) located on the South side of the airport. The purpose of this RSAT meeting is to unite those individuals and organizations that are actively involved in airside operations and movement of aircraft, vehicles and equipment on the Airport Operations Area (AOA). We look for participation from all airport interests (tenants, fixed base operators, local pilots, and airport operations and maintenance personnel). Participants are asked to help develop recommendations and solutions to enhance surface safety. Those recommendations serve as the foundation for a site-specific Runway Safety Action Plan. As part of the RSAT agenda, we will be discussing the North Ramp and Taxiway Charlie construction project scheduled to begin this summer. You are cordially invited and to join us. Your participation is important and your input is welcomed. The Airport will be providing pizza and pop beginning at 5:30 PM in the hangar. For food and seating requirements, a general idea of how many may be attending will be very helpful. Please RSVP via email or telephone no later than May 16th to: tim.proctor@serco-na.com or, 541-548-2574. If you have questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Tim Proctor Manager, Redmond FCT May Month Quiz Your mission: send me your best aviation movie suggestions. Not necessarily the best stories, but the best depictions of real flying. If any place in the movie there is a scene where an airplane goes into a power dive the instant the pilot lets go of the controls the movie will be instantly disqualified.
