Website http://co-opa.com May 2018, Vol. 18, Issue 5 President's Message: As it is the Third Thursday, 17 May, then come out to the Leading Edge Jet Center at KBDN. Our monthly meeting will start at 6pm. Bring food for our delicious potluck at 6:30pm, and finish up with a presentation at 7pm. Kim Muinch, the Central-Eastern Oregon Director for our Oregon Pilots Association.has a presentation. Kim is concerned about our gradually eroding membership. Kim wants to lead a discussion with us on the subject. Kim has a number of ideas that we can discuss. Should we work at building up our membership? Do we think we can bring-out the local pilots and groupies? IF so, how would we do that? Are YOU willing to work at it? We decided last month that this months Fly-Out would be to Oregon City so we can attend the memorial service for Mary Rosenblum. It will from 1 to 5pm on May 19th. At The Tumwater Ballroom, 211 Tumwater Drive, Oregon City, 97045. Today the weather in Mulino (4S9) was broken 1,400 and overcast 2,000 at noon. Given the weather we may have to drive over. Calendar: 17 May – Monthly Meeting 19 May – Monthly Fly-out 21 June – Monthly Meeting 23 June – Monthly Fly-out 19 July – Monthly Meeting 21 July – Monthly Fly-out April Fly-Out: Wow, we actually got to Fly-out, and Eat-in, on one Fly-out day. Our Fly-out day started with a hardy breakfast at Jakes Diner. Then two planes flew out to Siletz Bay State airport (S45) at Gleneden Beach. Right next to Salishan, and just south of Lincoln City. It was just a short walk, across Hwy 101, to the Side Door Cafe. Fun place, good food and a nice crowd. From there just a short walk down to the beach. A nice pocket beach, which is about to claim a number of houses from the cliffs above. Warm Springs Test Range Feel like a nice low and slow scenic flight going north up the Deschutes River? Check your NOTAMs! Like this innocuous one: !SEA 05/131 ZSE AIRSPACE UAS WI AN AREA DEFINED AS 3NM RADIUS OF 445108N1211156W (10NM N S33) SFC-1500FT AGL DLY 1430-0230 1805161430-1805260230 What does it really mean? Well, the Warm Springs Test Range, on the Warm Springs Indian reservation, hosts drone test flights. Not those wimpy little drones you buy in the store. These are serious 200+ pound devices that would hurt real bad if they hit your airplane. Kind of hard to decode that position, but “10 NM N S33” shows us it is 10 nm north of Madras Airport The area is a 3 nm radius and from the surface up to 1,5000 feet. So if you are flying down the river, north of the the town of Warm Springs, then you are in the midst of it.
