Website http://co-opa.com May 2020, Vol. 20, Issue 3 President's Message: We are back baby! Deschutes County has started to lift the lock-down and we can meet again as long as we maintain the social distance. So once again we are back at the Bend Builder’s Assist hanger on the Third Thursday this May 21st at 6pm. Many thanks to Mike Robertson allowing us to use his space. Instead of a potluck, everyone will bring their own dinner and utensils, to eat at 6:30pm. Then we will finish up with a short informal meeting a 7pm. Depending on who you ask, and when, the weather for Saturday will be Sunny, or Partly Sunny, highs in the 60’s, and wind calm to 10 mph. Perfect day for a Fly-out. Bring destination ideas to discuss Airshow: The Airshow of the Cascades, is still on the schedule for August 28 and 29. Obviously the details will depend on the mercy of what our state government will allow. Fingers crossed! New Airport Manager: As of April 27th, Tracy Williams is the new KBDN Airport Manager. With luck we can all meet her soon. I can only imagine how hard is was to move this April. I’m sure she will apply that bravery to her new job. Let us hope that our Central Oregon winters don’t scare her off. Strictly bring your own lunch for now. All while observing a healthy anti-social distance from our fellow pilots. Once at our destination we took the opportunity to stretch our legs and appreciate the sights and smells of the Oregon Outback. In March we headed out to Monument Airport (12S). The runway is short, narrow, curved, and inclined with a ridge-line where the cross wind leg should be. April took us to Oakridge State Airport (5S0). Another inclined runway, but sitting on a mesa, deep down in the middle of the narrow Willamette River Valley. Surrounded by a manicured lawn, with picnic tables, camping sites, and nice views. We did have one little scare, the wall of fog from Eugene came up the valley, but stopped a few miles west of the airport, where the sun was shining. In early May we headed to Condon State Pauling Airport (3S9). About as easy a paved runway as you can get. Right in the middle of wheat country. Next to the pioneer cemetery and the Country Fairgrounds.
