President's Message:

Boom. Summer just exploded. Too much heat already? Come discuss your
Summer plans to beat the heat at our May meeting on the 16th. the usual
Third Thursday of the month, Join us at the Bend Builders Assist hanger,
63030 Powell Butte Road, on the south west corner of KBDN, at 6pm. Bring
your own dinner, and we’ll eat right away before food get cold. As
always, many thanks go out to Mike Robertson, and Mike Wissing, for
letting us use their space.

Madras Airport Day:

Madras Airport )S33) will host an Airport Day, and Young Eagles event
on Saturday June 1st, from 8am to 1pm. The Scouts (no longer just Boys),
will host a pancake breakfast to start things off. A nice way to kick
off Summer.

Sisters Airport July 4th CANCELLED:

I only know what it says on their web site: “4th of July Event 2024
Cancelled”. Sad. They have done a great job in years past.

Prineville Wings And Wheels:

Prineville Airport (S39) will host their annual Wings and Wheels
airport open house on Saturday June 15th from 10am to 3pm. Always a fun
event. More details on their web page:

ODART Whale Run:

This year’s ODART Whale Run will be June 8th and 9th. For more
information, or to volunteer, please contact Kim Muinch, the primary
contact for the Bend depot. Kim can be reached at 541-848-3600.

Proposed Rules and Regulations

Almost 3 months past their due data, still silence from the City of
Bend about a red-lined copy of the Airport Rules and Regulations. Your
guess about where the city is at is as good mine. Fingers crossed. Visit

ATC Staffing:

Due to numerous publicized incidents about overworked Air Traffic
Control (ATC) staff making mistakes, the FAA has decided to reduce the
workload on staffers. They can’t quickly add staff, so hours will be
cut. Locally, this means the contract tower at Redmond (RDM) Airport
will be closing earlier starting late this month. Seattle Center (ZSE)
will also have reduced staffing.
