Website http://co-opa.com June 2017, Vol. 17, Issue 5 President's Message: June 15th is the Third Thursday this month. Don’t be off a week and miss our June Monthly Meeting. Head to the Professional Air waiting room, in the big green building on Bend Municipal Airport (KBDN). Arrive at 6pm for the usual chatter, we will do potluck at 6:30pm, and finish up with a short formal meeting at 7pm. It is hard to believe that Summer officially starts next Wednesday, on June 21st. At least the forecast for this month’s Fly-Out is at least decent Spring-like weather. Weather.gov expects a high of 75°F, mostly sunny, and light winds. Just about perfect. There is a wealth of aviation events coming up this Summer., and a few recent events, to discuss. Hope to see you all there! Calendar: 15 June – Monthly Meeting 19 June – Monthly Fly-out 24 June – WPA Fly-out – Grand Cooulee Dam 20 July – Monthly Meeting 22 July – Monthly Fly-out – S39 Open House 17 August – Monthly Meeting 19 August – Monthly Fly-Out 21 August – Solar Eclipse 25/26 August – Airshow of the Cascades May Fly-out: Last month I asked: Can our string of failed Fly-outs get any longer? Well, it did. So we headed off the Cheerleaders Grill for another Fly-In. Our condolences go out to Mike and Ann Bond. They had the best excuse not to be ready for a Fly-Out. . Their two-three-kaybeck was totaled in a hailstorm at Madras Airport. Extra June Fly-Out: We will not let good Summer weather go to waste. Kim Muinch is organizing an extra Fly-Out to Grand Coulee Dam, Electric City Airport (3W7) on June 24th. The trip is in concert with the Washington Pilots Association, so we’ll get to meet many fellow pilots at 3W7.. The trip will be an over night camping trip. Highlighting the trip will be a 30 minute laser light show on the dam at 10pm. Crescent Lake Airport: Good news. Crescent Lake Airport (5S2) is once again open for business. We can thank our OPA executive committee for pushing ODOT to make it happen. Instead of repairing the 3,900 foot runway, the state just shortened the runway to 2,200 feet. At least that leaves us with no trees near the runway ends. My Inbox: Hello Sunriver Aviators, We wanted to let you know that Scott and I have retired from the Sunriver Airport as of today. We have enjoyed getting to know all of you and serving your aviation needs in Sunriver for the last 10 years. We will miss watching you come and go in your various aircraft, and have thoroughly enjoyed all the flying stories we have shared. A new management team is in place and they will serve you well. The managers are Matt Fedorko who has worked here for 4 years, is a private pilot with an instrument rating and has a degree in Systems and Industrial Engineering from Virginia Tech. Co-managing with Matt is Clinton Ellson who is a commercial pilot with an instrument rating in single engine and multi-engine airplanes. He has worked here for 6 years and has a degree in Aviation Technology from University of Alaska. You may have seen these two gentlemen on the ramp fueling your aircraft over the years. Please reach out to them for anything you need at the Sunriver Airport. They will be assisted this summer by line staff, Thomas Wimberly, a private pilot, and Matthew Phillips, a newly rated private pilot. Both of them are smart and enthusiastic about promoting general aviation. If you need to reach out to Scott or I personally for any reason, feel free to email at sharting@centurylink.net or call 541-593-8886. Maybe we will see you when we are out here riding our bikes around Sunriver! Blue skies and tail winds to you all...!
