Redmond has approved a new contract with Butler to stay in operation on the field. But they also approved a new contract to lease the northwest side of the airport, including a new fuel farm, to leading Edge Aviation. So competition will be coming to KRDM. In other news, a new company, Advanced Flight Dynamics, will start up at KRDM. They plan to do advanced upset training in a Fouga Magister and an Xtreme Decathlon. The Magister is a French made light trainer jet. More info on their web site: http://www.advancedflightdynamics.com/ Other News: After a long and winding road, the Perlan-2 glider has now been fully assembled. Photos of the 1 ton beast are on page 2, courtesy of the High Desert Soaring Club (HDSC). Built right here on KBDN the Perlan-2 is a pressurized glider meant to soar to 90,000 feet! More details on the web: June Fly-out: Our June Fly-out was to the OPA Annual Convention in Newport (KONP). Kim Muinch and Gary Miller each stayed over in Newport on Friday night so as not to risk any fog delays on Saturday. OPA members from all over attended, so the gathering was quite large. The weather could not have been better, and was equaled by the quality of the many WINGS presentations. A fine lunch was provided free by OPA to all in attendance. The capstone of the day was a tour of the US Coast Guard helicopter station hosted by the active duty crew in their on-duty dry suits. These men are doing an amazing job keeping people safe near the coast.
