Calendar: 20 July – Monthly Meeting 22 July – Monthly Fly-out – S39 Open House 17 August – Monthly Meeting 19 August – Monthly Fly-Out 21 August – Solar Eclipse 25/26 August – Airshow of the Cascades 21 September – Monthly Meeting 23 September – Monthly Fly-Out My Inbox: Madras Airport (S33) has opened up a new grass runway parallel to Runway 32. Many people landed there on opening day all reports were good. Call ahead for runway status as there is still a bit more work to do. June Fly-out: Our regularly scheduled June Fly-out was to the newly reopened Crescent Lake State Airport (5S2). Kim Muinch flew up with his grand daughter. And Gary Miller flew up with Don Wilfong. Instead of fully repairing the 3,900 ft runway, they just marked off the best 2,200 ft of it for landing and fixed a few of the cracks. The bad news is that Manley’s was closed, and for sale. Luckily the deli at the corner market was open, and very tasty. All in all, a great day for a nice fly-out. Extra June Fly-Out: The Washington Pilots Association sponsored a fly-out to the Electric City Airport (3W7).. The airport is on Banks Lake, with nice camp grounds, showers the works. And the only airport I’ve ever been to with a loaner canoe. Extra June Flyo-Out (Ctnd) The WPA also organized a trip to toru the Grand Coulee Dam. The Dam was only the biggest power producing dam in the world, now it is number two behind China’s Three Gorges Dam. RAF Flyout The Recreational Aircraft Foundation (theraf.org/) has also been active in promoting Fly-outs. They sponsored a fly-out and potluck to Nehamlem Bay State Airport (3S7) on the 15th of July.
