Sunny, high of mid 80’s, and wind below 10mph for our Fly-out day, Saturday. Even the coast and Willamette Valley look good. Where should we go? Garmin Apollo GX50/55/60/65? Well, the last data update is coming soon in just months. Give that old box new data! No more data updates will be forthcoming according to Jeppessen. If you have expired data on your data card, but no reader, we have a solution for you. One of our members let us borrow his Skybound Card Reader, and we are going to update our cards. It is a limited time offer. You will have to pay for the update. I believe the cost is $134 for either the western U.S. or the eastern. Only one will fit on a single card. We will discuss this at our July 15th evening chapter meeting and make a plan to do the update. Come on out and sign up or let us know if you cannot make the meeting. - Kim Muinch Newsletter Inputs: Check out current and past CO-OPA newsletters, view our membership list and view hot aviation links on our website at: http://co-opa.com Please send comments and story ideas to: gem@rellim.com Calendar: 16 July – Monthly Meeting 18 July – Monthly Fly-out 20 August – Monthly Meeting 22 August – Monthly Fly-out 17 September – Monthly Meeting 19 September – Monthly Fly-out Fly-Out: Our monthly Fly-out for June headed to Grant County Regional Airport/Ogilvie Field (KGCD). A high overcast cut the direct sun and brought out the spring colors of the high meadows on our route of flight. The aviating, as always, was flawless. Navigating the crew cars into town, not so much. Eventually we all made it to the Squeeze-In Restaurant and Deck on the far west edge of town. The sunny deck was “full” of socially distant diners, so we ate inside, well separated from the other patrons. Good food, good service, friendly folks. What more could you ask for? In an unusual, bonus, fly-out, some pilots headed to Eugene (KEUG) on July 11 to help present this year’s OPA/Meyer Memorial Scholarship to a worthy recipient. There were almost a dozen very qualified applicants this year. Many more details on that will be in the next OPA Propwash. Bend Airport Tenants: Is Your Rent Going Up? Tenant Roundtable: This coming Thursday evening at the Bend Airport Come on out to our monthly meeting of the Bend Chapter of the Oregon Pilots Assoc. this coming Thursday, evening July 16th. Even if you are not directly affected, come on out. Non-members welcome! We will also be web-casting the discussion via Google Meet. This link will give you access to the discussion via your PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone. meet.google.com/mvq-vpyk-yny On Tuesday, June 30th, the City of Bend gave 30-day notice to airport tenants of rental rate increases for most hangars, tiedowns, land, vehicle parking space, storage space, office space and caf_ space. https://www.bendoregon.gov/home/showdocument?id=46825 I have listened to a few tenants that have concerns that go beyond the large rent increase they are facing. Those concerns include transparency, disclosure, communications, accuracy, timing, fairness, empathy, and decency. A few members of the Bend EAA chapter voiced their objections at their meeting this past Wednesday evening. I_m thinking there may be quite a few tenants that have concerns or even flat-out objections they_d like to voice. The OPA is sponsoring an informal roundtable to listen, understand and determine if the OPA should take action on behalf of the Bend Airport tenant community. Your voice will be heard. This isn't the time for us to engage airport staff or city staff. The first step is to understand; Then it will be time to be understood. If you have specific questions or an individual objection you should contact airport staff. The Oregon Pilots Association was established in 1936 and has hundreds of members. We work closely with the Oregon Dept. of Aviation to promote aviation in Oregon, and to represent their collective interests, with the following objectives: 1. Advocate for General Aviation on legislative matters, 2. Support and protect the interests of general aviation, 3. Provide a forum for educational and safety training, 4. Voluntary participation in disaster relief missions, and 5. Provide social and networking opportunities. If you are not an OPA member and would like to show your support, you can find membership information here. https://www.oregonpilot.org/membership -- Kim Muinch, Central/Eastern Oregon Region Director, Oregon Pilots Assoc.
