Website http://co-opa.com September 2022, Vol. 22, Issue 9 President's Message: First the heat, and now the smoke. I’d rather have the heat. Come to our CO-OPA Monthly Meeting on the 18th of August,, the usual Third Thursday of the month, and tell us how you have avoided the smoke. We’ll gather in the Bend Builders Assist hanger, 63030 Powell Butte Road, on the south west corner of KBDN, at 6pm. Bring your own dinner, and we’ll eat right away before food get cold. As always, many thanks go out to Mike Robertson, and Mike Wissing, for letting us use their space. The weather forecast for out Fly-out on Saturday has been all over the place. The AQI forecasts have also been swinging wildly. Unstable forecasts scare me, come share your thoughts on what our plans should be for our Fly-out day. Calendar: 7-16 September – KBDN runway closure 10-11 September – WAAAM Fly-in 15 September – Monthly Meeting 17 September – Monthly Fly-out 25 September – Jordan Chicken Fly-in. 20 October – Monthly Meeting 22 October – Monthly Fly-out 17 November – Monthly Meeting 18 November – Monthly Fly-out Newsletter Inputs: Current and past CO-OPA newsletters, are on our website at: https://co-opa.com Please send comments and story ideas to: gem@rellim.com KBDN Runway Closure: The KBDN runway was closed on the 7th of September, scheduled to reopen late on the 16th. No word yet on how that has been going. Fingers crossed. There will be a second, shorter, closure in October to finish the job. Fly-out: Our July Fly-out was to Prospect State Airport (64S). A short 99 nm flight, plus optional diversion over Crater Lake (!), descending into the Rogue River Valley took us to 64S. A short walk into town brought us to The Trophy Room for a nice lunch. The new owners just keep making the old place better and better. Aftewrwards the light-weights in the group headed back to Bend, while a hardy few hiked to the Peyton Bridge for great views of Pearsony Falls. Then we traveled down into the state park for a closer look at the falls. Flying back was a little tougher. The (then) small Cedar Creek Fire was already putting up a lot of smoke. Over La Pine, the smoke went from the ground to 11,500 feet. Some went over, some went around, and some went through it. All have stories to tell. 88th Annual Jordan Dinner They have a great Chicken Dinner, Car Show and more. On September 25, 2022, from 10:30am to 3:00pm at Gillette Field (OR51), a 2,800’ long wide grass runway at 735 MSL. There is a power line on the east end. Unicom 122.9.
