Website http://co-opa.com October 2018, Vol. 18, Issue 10 President's Message: Clearly our new meeting space is not working out, but we’ll try one more time in the hanger to the north of the Leading Edge Jet Center, on the second floor. Mike Bond suggested maybe we find a restaurant in town for meetings? As usual, we meet on the Third Thursday (18 October). Meet and Greet at 6pm. Chow down at our potluck at 6:30pm, and finish up a short informal meeting at 7pm. A nice forecast for our Fly-out day. High of 77F, light winds and clear. We need to savor these beautiful blue days when we have them, the rains start next Tuesday. Drones: I just saw a video of what happens when a two pound drone hits a GA wing at 200 mph. Not pretty. Which is why the FAA does not allow flying drones within five miles of an airport. Sadly some drone pilots are aware of the rule and yet insist they have the right to fly over Bend Airport. Gary Judd, KBDN Airport Manager caught one just last Tuesday. Just one more reason to keep your eyes outside the cockpit and not on your fish-finder. Calendar: 18 October – Monthly Meeting 20 October – Monthly Fly-out 15 November – Monthly meeting 17 November – Monthly Fly-out TBD December – Xmas Party September Fly-Outs: Once again, the weather on our Fly-out day was not good. So, once again, we met for breakfast at Cheerleaders Grill. All the fun of flying out to breakfast, without the avgas bill. Luckily the weather on Sunday was seemingly perfect for the 84th Annual Jordan Chicken Run Cruise-In & Fly-In (OR51). The METAR at KBDN and KSLE were clear. But from the Cascades west to Stayton it was overcast 8,500, with breaks over Scio, bases around 4,000. Not good, but not bad. The fun part was that some arriving airplanes were on 122.8 and some on 122.9, with a lot of them not bothering to look out their windshields. Several people cut me off on base and on final. The second time around the pattern ended in a nice landing on the nicely groomed grass strip. There were lots of airplanes, lots of show cars, and lots of chicken dinners. As a bonus Don Wilfong won a BMX bike. Expect him to wow us with his trick riding soon.
