Website: http://co-opa.com November 2011, Vol. 11, Issue 10 President's Message: Head on out to our monthly meeting the third Thursday at 6pm for some pilotage, some grub at 6:30pm and our formal meeting at 7pm. Bring your checkbook, our Holiday Charity needs a little more help than usual this year. Then be sure to mark your calendar for our Holiday Party on December 15th. As in years past we will probably find suitable festive location so listen for details as they are decided. They work on my laptop, my phone and my tablet. Great for flight planning and for those with an Ipad (like Alaska Air pilots) great for inflight usage. Now the FAA wants to end all downloads, free and paid, from their servers. Effective April 2012. Ugh. So, head over to the White house and register your displeasure. Not the real White House, but go to : https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions Search for 'FAA” and sign the petition protesting the move. NOAA charts, in raster and vector formats, have been free for over a decade, why is that so hard for the FAA? Some planes hit a few bumps but everyone had a fun time. In addition to the usual suspects Scott Condon flew his daughters 150 and Jay Bunning brought his wife in a rental Diamond. Four in a row Photo by Ed Endsley October Flyout (cont): There is now a fine restaurant just across the road to the west from the runway and we all had a hearty breakfast. The hot topic of discussion for the breakfast was that Super Cubs performing flower bombing now seem to have right of way over other aircraft at 4S2. Finding yourself in the pattern with 3 of them flying close formation to you can be a big surprise. Western Antique Airplane & Automobile Museum Photo by Ed Endsley The highlight of the day (other than flying) was the Western Antique Aircraft and Automobile Museum. Even more jam packed with cool airplanes than our last trip. They now have plans to add a third hanger for public display. Now Dave has turned over the keys to Don and Doug Peterman who will run the place as the Airport Cafe. Many of us know Don from the Red Hanger and before. Don is a long time local pilot with his eye now on serving the Bend airport community with food choices to fit their needs. The Airport Cafe is working to expand it hours soon to be from 6:30am to 7pm. Breakfast items will be served all day. Lunch will be served from 11am on and a new dinner menu is in the works. One new feature already up and running are Grab and Go meals. These are ready to go bag meals for the person on the go. Specially designed to be cockpit friendly too. Sounds like a great way to start a long cross country. Just be sure to check their hours before heading out their later in the day until their schedule stabilizes. Even that will be hard until a phone and a website running. Short Final 25 Hood River Photo by Ed Endsley Newsletter Inputs: Send your newsletter tidbits to: gem@rellim.com
