Website http://co-opa.com November 2018, Vol. 18, Issue 11 President's Message: Another location change. Mike Robertson of Bend Builder’s Assist will allow us to use his hanger for our November meeting (Nov 15th). The street address is 63030 Powell Butte Hwy. It is on the south west corner of the airport, and is the same place the EAA meets. There is a banner outside. Otherwise we’ll stick to the usual times: meet and Greet at 6pm. Chow down at our potluck at 6:30pm, and finish up a short informal meeting at 7pm. This will be our last meeting of 2018. Next month we’ll join the EAA for their holiday party on December 12 at the Bend Black Bear Diner. Festivities to start at 5:20pm. The forecast for our Fly-out day starts out a bit funky, but is supposed to clear to through the day. We’ll have to see how things look. New Airport: Many thanks to the recreational Aircraft Foundation (RAF) for yet another new backcountry airport near Condon, OR. The paperwork has been submitted and the airport should be on your charts in 2019. More info here: https://theraf.org/news/2018/oregon-gains-new-recreational-destination Drones: There is always some fine print to learn. This month, Gary Judd, our KBDN Airport Manager, found that out. It actually is legal for a licensed commercial drone pilot to operate in class G airspace on an uncontrolled airport, such as Bend, without notification. So keep a sharp lookout! Calendar: 15 November – Monthly meeting 17 November – Monthly Fly-out 12 December – Xmas Party 17 January – Monthly Meeting 19 January – Monthly Fly-out October Fly-Outs: As is often the case, the weather for our October Fly-out was grand. Severe clear everywhere, hardly any smoke anywhere, and fall colors on display in the Rogue River Valley.. We took the opportunity to wing on down to Prospect State Airport (64S). A short walk into town led us to the recently re-opened Prospect Grill and Trophy Room for a nice lunch. While there we met a group of pilots on a Fly-out from Northern California. The way back was a bit more treacherous as I bungled the trail blazing from the country store, across the canyon, and back to the airport. It was worth it for the amazing waterfalls. The homeless camps, not so much. The view of Crater lake from 8,500 feet, priceless.
